Den ryska presidenten tog upp en rad olika ämnen vid ett välbesökt evenemang i Sotji på torsdagen. Rysslands president Vladimir Putin deltog i ett möte med den årliga Valdai Discussion Club i Sotji på torsdagen. Den ryska ledaren höll ett inledningsanförande, deltog i en paneldiskussion och svarade på frågor från publiken.
Under nästan fyra timmar berörde Putin ett brett spektrum av frågor, bland annat konflikten i Ukraina, utvecklingen av global politik, relationerna med USA och vad han beskrev som den västerländska civilisationens nedgång.
En multipolär värld som svar på västerländsk hegemoni
Världen genomgår ”snabba och drastiska förändringar”, sade Putin och tillade att det är ”lätt att gå vilse” i en modell där ingenting är riktigt ”bestämt”.

Uppkomsten av en multipolär värld är ett naturligt svar på västvärldens hårdhänta politik, menade han.
”Multipolaritet har blivit en direkt följd av försöken att etablera och bevara global hegemoni, ett svar från det internationella systemet och historien själv på den besatta önskan att ordna alla i en enda hierarki, med västländerna i toppen. Att ett sådant försök skulle misslyckas var bara en tidsfråga”, sade han.
Demokratins urholkning
Putin insisterade på att själva begreppet demokrati håller på att urholkas i väst.
”Demokratiska valförfaranden har förvandlats till en fars, försök att manipulera folkets vilja – det kommer inte att fungera. Vi har sett detta i Rumänien, till exempel… Det händer i många länder”, sade han.

2024 ogiltigförklarade Rumäniens högsta domstol resultatet av presidentvalet med hänvisning till valfusk och utländsk inblandning, medan favoriten Calin Georgescu hindrades från att delta i omvalet.
Putin sade också att institutioner som OSSE har blivit politiserade och partiska, medan EU inte längre är det ”mäktiga civilisationscentrum” som det en gång var.
Västvärlden bör fokusera på sina egna problem
Putin avfärdade påståenden om att Ryssland avser att attackera EU eller Nato och sade att politiker som främjar detta antingen är ”grovt inkompetenta” eller ”korrupta” och ljuger för sina medborgare.
”Ärligt talat är allt jag vill säga: Slappna av, sov gott eller ta itu med era egna problem”, sade Putin och uppmanade EU att istället fokusera på migration och ekonomiska problem.
Ryssland har inte råd att vara svagt
Historien visar att svaghet inte är ett alternativ för Ryssland, hävdade Putin. För vissa, sa han, ”skapar det en frestelse, en illusion att meningsskiljaktigheter med oss kan lösas med våld”.
Han hävdade att konflikten i Ukraina har förvandlat den ryska armén till en av de mest stridsberedda styrkorna i världen, med förmågan att ”snabbt anpassa sig” till utmaningar.
”Om vi är i krig med hela Nato-blocket … måste vi ha förtroende för oss själva, och det har vi”, sade Putin.

Frankrike tar till piratmetoder
På frågan om Frankrikes beslagtagande av en oljetanker som påstås tillhöra den så kallade ”ryska skuggflottan” som används för att kringgå sanktioner, jämförde Putin det med piratmetoder. Han bagatelliserade incidenten som ett försök att distrahera väljarna från inrikesfrågor.
”Vad gör man med pirater? Man förstör dem. Vad annat ska man göra med pirater? Det betyder inte att det kommer att bryta ut krig på världens hav imorgon, men risken för kollisioner kommer säkert att öka kraftigt och betydligt”, sade Putin.
Ingen papperstiger
Putin avvisade USA:s president Donald Trumps senaste beskrivning av Ryssland som en ”papperstiger” och antydde att Trump kanske talade ironiskt. Han betonade att den ryska armén stadigt har gjort framsteg och orsakat stora förluster för de ukrainska trupperna.

”Vad händer nu? Ja, i så fall, gå och konfrontera denna papperstiger. Men som ni kan se är verkligheten på plats en annan”, sade han.
Putin hävdade att Ukraina förlorade nästan 45 000 soldater bara i september och tillade att Ryssland de facto ”befinner sig i krig med hela Nato”. Samtidigt berömde han Trump för att han var villig att lyssna på Rysslands argument under förhandlingarna.
Tomahawks skulle inte tippa vågskålen
Putin varnade för att leveransen av Tomahawk-kryssningsmissiler till Ukraina inte skulle förändra konfliktens förlopp, utan ytterligare eskalera spänningarna med USA.
Även om vissa västerländska medier antydde att Trump övervägde att tillhandahålla missilerna, rapporterade Reuters på torsdagen att leveranser är osannolika eftersom USA inte har några att avvara.
Leveransen av dessa vapen skulle markera ”en ny fas av eskalering”, sade Putin och hävdade att Ukraina inte kan använda dem utan direkt militärt engagemang från USA.
Mordet på Charlie Kirk visar på en splittring i det amerikanska samhället
Putin uttryckte sitt deltagande till familjen till den amerikanske konservative aktivisten Charlie Kirk, som mördades av en prickskytt i Utah förra månaden.
Det ”avskyvärda brottet” var ”ett tecken på en djup splittring i samhället”, sade den ryska ledaren.

Emmanuel Todd – ‘The Defeat Of The West’ In Its Current Phase
In 1976 the French anthropologist Emmanuel Todd predicted the down fall of the Soviet Union. In After The Empire, first published in French in 2001, he predicted the (relative) decline of the United States. In his latest (and last) book, La Défaite de l’Occident (The Defeat of the West), he laments the West’s inability to distinguish facts from wishes, as seen in its behavior during the war in Ukraine. Nihilism, a lack of values and of acceptance of reality, has infested western thinking:
Trans ideology is therefore, in my opinion, one of the flags of this nihilism that now defines the West, this drive to destroy not just things and people but reality.
Todd recently opened a substack where he is posting speeches and talks he has given.
Todd has just published a new preface for his book in which he sheds light on the consequences of the West’s defeat in Ukraine.
Here are some excerpts with highlights added:
I have always been hostile to the Russophobic policies of the United States and Europe, but as a Westerner committed to liberal democracy, a Frenchman trained in research in England, the child of a mother who was a refugee in the United States during the Second World War, I am devastated by the consequences for us Westerners of the war waged without intelligence against Russia.
We are only at the beginning of the catastrophe. A tipping point is approaching, beyond which the ultimate consequences of defeat will unfold.
…
I now fear that our media will exacerbate our blindness by being unable to imagine Russia’s renewed prestige in the rest of the world, which has been exploited economically and treated with arrogance by the West for centuries. The Russians dared. They challenged the Empire and they won.
The irony of history is that the Russians, a European and white people who speak a Slavic language, have become the military shield of the rest of the world because the West refused to integrate them after the fall of communism.

I can sketch out here a model of the dislocation of the West, despite the inconsistencies of the policies of Donald Trump, the defeated American president. These inconsistencies do not result, I believe, from an unstable and undoubtedly perverse personality, but from an insoluble dilemma for the United States. On the one hand, their leaders, both in the Pentagon and the White House, know that the war is lost and that Ukraine will have to be abandoned. Common sense therefore leads them to want to get out of the war. But on the other hand, the same common sense makes them realise that the withdrawal from Ukraine will have dramatic consequences for the Empire that those from Vietnam, Iraq or Afghanistan did not have. This is indeed the first American strategic defeat on a global scale, in a context of massive deindustrialisation in the United States and difficult reindustrialisation.

Imperial dynamics, or rather imperial inertia, continue to undermine the dream of a return to the productive nation state.
In Europe, military defeat [in Ukraine] remains poorly understood by leaders.

Unaware of the extent of the military defeat, they do know, however, that their own economies have been paralysed by the sanctions policy, especially by the disruption of their supply of cheap Russian energy. Cutting the European continent in half economically was an act of suicidal madness.

A negative economic and social dynamic existed before the war and was already putting the West under strain. It was visible, to varying degrees, throughout Western Europe. Free trade is undermining the industrial base. Immigration is developing an identity syndrome, particularly among the working classes who are deprived of secure and properly paid jobs.
More profoundly, the negative dynamic of fragmentation is cultural: mass higher education creates stratified societies in which the highly educated – 20%, 30%, 40% of the population – begin to live among themselves, to think of themselves as superior, to despise the working classes, and to reject manual labour and industry. Primary education for all (universal literacy) had nurtured democracy, creating a homogeneous society with an egalitarian subconscious. Higher education has given rise to oligarchies, and sometimes plutocracies, stratified societies invaded by an unequal subconscious. The ultimate paradox: the development of higher education ended up producing a decline in intellectual standards in these oligarchies or plutocracies!

The war has raised European tensions a notch. It is impoverishing the continent. But above all, as a major strategic failure, it is delegitimising leaders who are incapable of leading their countries to victory.

One of the interesting features of America today is that its leaders are finding it increasingly difficult to distinguish between internal and external issues, despite MAGA’s attempt to stop immigration from the south with a wall. The army fires on boats leaving Venezuela, bombs Iran, enters the centres of Democratic cities in the United States, and sponsors the Israeli air force for an attack on Qatar, where there is a huge American base. Any science fiction reader will recognise in this disturbing list the beginnings of a descent into dystopia, that is, a negative world where power, fragmentation, hierarchy, violence, poverty and perversity intermingle.
So let us remain ourselves, outside America. Let us retain our perception of the inside and the outside, our sense of proportion, our contact with reality, our conception of what is right and beautiful. Let us not allow ourselves to be dragged into a headlong rush to war by our own European leaders, those privileged individuals lost in history, desperate at having been defeated, terrified at the idea of one day being judged by their peoples. And above all, above all, let us continue to reflect on the meaning of things.

Gilbert Doctorow och John Helmer verkar kritiska mot Putin för att vara för svag mot väst om jag ska förenkla något.
Jag håller med om att det jag sett från Putin i närtid inte var identiskt med tidigare
varningar. Putin sa visserligen att Trump’s Tomahawk-missiler till Ukraina skulle förstöra relationen mellan Ryssland och USA men han sa inte som Ryssland tidigare framfört att de skulle slå tillbaka mot de länder som hjälper Ukraina på det viset.
Dvs han varnade trots allt inte USA för militär retaliering.
Det är en knepig situation för Putin som ju har erbjudit USA möjligheter att investera och hellre ser att saker utvecklas i den riktningen.
Det kanske kommer fram mer efter hand, jag läser förstås inte allt, men jag håller med kritikerna om att en sån defensiv hållning öppnar för att Tyskland också skickar sina Taurus-missiler. Och från svensk sida tycks ju vansinnet vara totalt så kanske även dårarna här kan tänka sig att skjuta missiler. Ni läste väl Arnstberger redogörelse för hur marrionetten Pål Jonson har tränats av USA att göra Sverige till ett nytt Ukraina. Lite tillspetsat uttryckt alltså. I verkligheten har Sverige förstås ekonomiska intressen i USA och det är nog i relation till dem man ska se Sveriges skattepengar som går till amerikanska vapeninköp.
Europa återindustrialiserar USA så att Hegemonen kan räddas att fortsätta sitt världsomspännande förtryck.
